Welcome

Welcome to the Bujinkan Dojo Adelaide. In this site we have a brief explanation of the type of martial art that we teach, the people doing the teaching, and lists of associated dojos around Australia.

The art of Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu is the collection of ancient martial arts and techniques inherited by Soke (grandmaster) Masaaki Hatsumi. In total there are nine sub-schools of martial arts in the Bujinkan, each with their own specialties and differences from each other. Three of them are of Ninjutsu ancestry, while the others are of more "mainstream" Japanese martial arts. For the most part classes are not taught by these sub-schools but as a unified whole so as to concentrate on the passing on of skills to the student rather than history. The main aspects are unarmed combat, stick weapons (1&2 metre), spear, halberd, sword and knife.

Gyokko Ryu is the theme for 2005

Gyokko Ryu is one of the most important styles in the Bujinkan. It was historically one of the foundation styles for all Ninjutsu. The footwork of Gyokko Ryu plays an important part in the Bujinkan, setting up the understanding of distancing, timing and balance. Weapons skills are also integral, and it is from the body movement needed to use weapons that the footwork truely stems from.
Shihan Ed Lomax will be visiting the dojo of long time friend Shihan Simon Gaunt to conduct a two day seminar into the teachings of Gyokko Ryu, taking it beyond the kata to the feeling of the style.

Ed Lomax will be conducting some extra full day trainig sessions over the summer months. Check out the Taikai section for more information.
